Compared to the rest of 2009, Kingdom
of Rust was better than average. However, when you
think that the title track and "Jetstream" pale in
comparison to anything on Some Cities or Last
Broadcast, you have to feel a bit put off by the
album. Don't get the hi-fi wrong, the Doves have earned a
place as one of the bands of the naughts, it's just that we
felt a little bit stretched by the sound of Kingdom of
Rust.
